Real wood blinds have a warm, natural look that’s hard to find in fabric window treatments. Like a beautiful piece of furniture, their sophistication and refined quality make them highly desirable in the world of interior design. Hunter Douglas offers a high quality and customizable collection of wood blinds with design options to complement your home’s decor. Read on to learn about all the ways wood blinds are a great choice for you.

Parkland® Wood Blinds

For that rich, traditional looking hardwood blind, Parkland® Wood Blinds are a great choice. They’re available in more than seventy colors and finishes to complement or contrast with existing furniture, woodwork and flooring in your home. Parkland® Wood blinds can be customized to fit windows of most sizes or shapes.  Operating the blinds is easy with the five different options from which to choose. These options include the latest innovations from Hunter Douglas, PowerView® Motorization. This exciting operating system allows you to control the blinds remotely from home or away, simply by pressing a button. PowerView® can work together with your existing home automation system and can be programed to close at specific times of the day, respond to voice commands or when your home’s thermostat reaches a predetermined temperature.  Other operating systems include SimpleLift™, UltraGlide® and LiteRise®. All of these systems are cordless and designed not only for convenience but for enhanced child safety.

The designers at Sew Fine II can help select the stunning finishes offered on Parkland Wood Blinds.  In addition to paints and stains, Abachi Wood slats are available for stunning texture.  A wire brushed finish is also available.

The Hunter Douglas wood blinds are not limited to just a “standard” 2-inch wood slat.  To optimize the size of your windows and the view, 2.5-inch slats are also available.

Parkland® Wood Blinds offer  coordinating wood cornices, giving them some extra flair. These wood cornices can be paired with any window treatment, including draperies.

Along with natural beauty, blinds made of real wood are a natural insulator, helping to keep unwanted cold drafts out in the winter and help keep heat out in the summer. They also offer superior light and privacy control, making your home that much more comfortable and enjoyable.

There’s no denying the beauty and sophistication that blinds made of natural hardwoods add to your windows. They are a wonderful investment in your home that will last for years in addition to being a  beautiful design choice. All wood blinds from Hunter Douglas are made from 100% sustainably farmed and responsibly harvested American hardwoods. All Hunter Douglas wooden blinds are carefully handcrafted in the United States using a time-honored carpentry process. Hunter Douglas stands behind all of their products by offering the Hunter Douglas Limited Lifetime Guarantee.

When looking to update your window treatments, blinds tend to be a popular option, but that doesn’t mean they have to be boring. Hunter Douglas blinds offer options for orientation, operation, colors, and materials, so you get blinds that offer more for your home. At Sew Fine II Interiors, we have 30 years of experience in window coverings, so we can help you find the right vertical or horizontal blinds for your home. Stop by our decorated design studio with a Hunter Douglas Gallery or contact us today to see what custom blinds have to offer.

Horizontal blinds work best on traditional windows that are taller than they are wide and windows that open up and down. Our Parkland® Wood Blinds are made from 100% real wood and come in a variety of different colors to complement any decor. They have a lifetime guarantee against warping and splitting of the wooden slats.  Wood blinds offer a natural charm and warmth to your home, and you can choose the slat size to ensure you get the right amount of light control and privacy in your home. If you like the way wood blinds look but need something a little more durable, consider Everwood® Wood Alternative Blinds. These blinds are created to mimic the look of real wood, but are made from an alternative wood material, making them more durable than wood. They are also guaranteed to never bow, yellow, or crack, regardless of temperature or moisture, so they are great for areas like garages and bathrooms that can get hot and humid. For a more modern look, check out our Modern Precious Metals® blinds. These sturdy aluminum blinds offer a great alternative to wood blinds, and there are several finishes available to give your blinds the right look for your home, including pearlescent, matte, and metallic.

If you need to cover wide windows or sliding glass doors, vertical blinds are a better option. Vertical blinds open from side to side, so they make using your sliding glass doors much easier than horizontal blinds would. Additionally, horizontal blinds get heavy and unwieldy as they get too wide, so they are not the best option for these types of windows. With our Hunter Douglas vertical blind choices, you can choose from aluminum, wood, vinyl, or fabric in many different colors and opacities. Our Skyline® Gliding Window Panels offer a dramatic look and great light diffusion. By diffusing the sunlight that enters your home, these panels spread that light around your room to better illuminate your home. This way, you can make better use of the natural light that enters your home and reduce the amount of artificial light you use. The Skyline Gliding Window Panels can cover very wide and long window openings with minimal projection into your room.  For a more economic option, our Vertical Solutions® blinds offer a more budget-friendly assortment of fabric and vinyl blinds. If you want more choices from your blinds, Somner® Custom Vertical Blinds offer the largest selection of textures, colors, and treatments, so there is something for everyone.

You can choose to operate your horizontal or vertical blinds by Hunter Douglas manually.  Child safe cordless lift options are available.  You can also choose to operate your blinds using battery powered motors.  Use a remote control….or your smart phone or tablet….to operate these window coverings even if you are not at home.

Whether you need vertical blinds, horizontal blinds, or a different window treatment altogether, Sew Fine II Interiors can help! We also offer full interior design services and home furnishings.  In-home appointments are available as well.  Our design studio is conveniently located in Durham, NC, near Southpoint Mall.

Is it difficult for you to sleep soundly because of unwanted light entering your bedroom? Do you have trouble watching a movie in your living room because of the glare on your television?

If so, we have a great and simple solution for you! An easy way to fix these issues is with Hunter Douglas custom blackout shades. In addition to great aesthetic appeal, these blackout shades also have a multitude of practical benefits as well. Sew Fine II Interiors of Durham, NC provides you with this information on the benefits of Hunter Douglas custom blackout shades, so that you may see why you should be excited about them and how they could fit into your home!

Room Darkening Fabrics

Hunter Douglas offers a very large range of options for the right amount of room darkness. When deciding that you would like to have more control over the light that enters a certain space in your home, some key factors to consider are fabric type and color. Sheer fabrics typically just soften and filter sunlight, while semi-opaque and opaque fabrics almost completely block the light out. These fabrics will darken a room but do not entirely eliminate light.

Blackout Window Treatments

However, if you want to block out as much natural light as possible, it is important to look for the Hunter Douglas window treatments with maximum light-blocking qualities. These are uniquely designed to minimize light gaps, seams and holes such as the de-Light feature that we offer. Good options to consider are Duette and Applause opaque honeycomb shades, Parkland Wood Blinds, and  EverWood Alternative Wood Blinds.  Another good option to prevent light from coming in to a space is a room darkening liner. This is available on Hunter Douglas’ Provenance woven wood shades.

You might be thinking that no one truly needs motorized window treatments. But it’s pretty hard to ignore their many benefits, and after having them in your home, you may wonder how you ever lived without them.

The Convenience of Motorized Window Treatments

Motorized window treatments are the ultimate in convenience. Imagine being able to open and close your blinds or shades without moving more than a finger. When you use motorization, that’s all it takes.

With the PowerView® operating system from Hunter Douglas, window treatments have a battery-powered motor that you operate with a remote control, cell phone, tablet, or whole-house automation system. Different groups of shades or blinds can be programmed to move to the same position at the same time at the push of a button. No more adjusting each one individually and struggling to get them all to the same height.

Do you have window treatments that haven’t moved since they were installed because they are too hard to reach? Maybe they are tucked behind a piece of furniture or are too high on your wall? Whatever the reason, motorizing can make your blinds or shades mobile again, and you can adjust them remotely instead of having to reach them.

Motorized Window Treatments Increase Safety and Energy Efficiency

Safety is increased by motorized window treatments in several different ways. First, if you have young children or pets, you are most likely aware of the dangers of having long, loose cords that they could get tangled in. When your blinds or shades are motorized, you no longer need cords or chains to operate them, so your window treatments are safer.

The second way motorization increases safety actually happens when you aren’t home. If you frequently work long hours or go out of town for a couple weeks or more on a regular basis, your home could be targeted by thieves who watch for activity in a home before breaking in. Because you can operate your window treatments with a smart phone or mobile device, you can give the impression that someone is home by moving your shades or blinds up and down at seemingly random times while you are gone, giving the appearance that your home is occupied.

Energy efficiency is important, especially if you live in a home that has older or original windows that don’t block out the heat of summer or the cold winds of winter effectively. The PowerView app from Hunter Douglas enables you to schedule your window treatments to open and close according to the sunrise or sunset here in North Carolina so you are not wasting heating or cooling costs. And if the weather changes while you aren’t home, you can use your smartphone anywhere there is Wi-Fi to adjust your blinds or shades accordingly.

Are you ready to enjoy the benefits of motorized window treatments? If so, or if you would like more information about them, stop into the Sew Fine II Interiors showroom in Durham, North Carolina and talk with one of our motorization experts. We proudly serve Cary, Chapel Hill, Pittsboro, and Raleigh.

Window treatments are often an afterthought when it comes to updating a home, but they are an important part of any room. Shades are one of the most popular types of window treatments, and with good reason. There are many benefits to including custom shades in your décor.

1. Custom shades today come in so many different styles and materials, you are guaranteed to find more than one that will work perfectly in any room of your home. From woven woods and Roman shades to cellular and roller shades, you can get them in almost any color, texture, or pattern.

2. Shades offer both light control and privacy. To block out the majority of natural light, consider using a room-darkening roller shade. Woven woods and Roman shades can both be made with room-darkening liners that are either attached to the shade or operate independently. On the opposite end of the spectrum, designer screen shades filter unwanted UV rays without blocking the sunlight, all while allowing a view of the outdoors.

3. Shades can reduce your energy bills. Honeycomb shades are the most energy-efficient window treatments on the market today. Adding these unique shades, made of single or multiple layers of fabric in cellular shapes, will keep the heat of the summer and the cool winds of winter out of your room. All of this reduces the need to cool or heat your home.

4. Shades are easy to combine with curtains or draperies because they operate up and down within the confines of your window trim. Instead of hanging regular sheers under your draperies, use Silhouettes® or Pirouettes®, sheer shadings that filter light through sheer panels when the fabric vanes are open and block out more light when they are closed.

5. Custom shades are available with a variety of operating systems. Standard operating systems for Hunter Douglas are the cordlock and clutch systems, but most shades can be made with upgraded operating systems that may better fit your lifestyle. For instance, if you have young children or pets, the UltraGlide system with its retractable cord, or SimpleLift or LiteRise, which are completely cordless, reduces the risk of entanglement. And for the ultimate in convenience, PowerView motorized shades can be operated with a remote control, mobile device, or a whole home automation system, like those available from Amazon and Google.

6. Custom shades are made specifically for your windows. As with all custom window fashions from Hunter Douglas, your windows will be precisely measured before your shades are made to ensure the proper fit. Many of the shades can also be made to cover uniquely shaped windows, including circular, arched, or angled. Once they are complete, they will be installed by a professional and covered by a limited lifetime guarantee.

If you are ready to enjoy the many benefits of custom shades in your home, or if you want to learn more about any of the window treatments from Hunter Douglas, visit the Sew Fine II Interiors showroom in Durham, North Carolina. We will be happy to help you find the right ones for your Cary, Chapel Hill, Pittsboro, or Raleigh home.

Hunter Douglas is known for their custom quality window treatments, and their plantation shutters are definitely no exception. If you have not had the pleasure of owning these window treatments, here are some things you should know.

Types of Hunter Douglas Plantation Shutters

Palm Beach™ – Palm Beach shutters are made with a Polysatin™ compound and are available in white or off-white to match your painted trim. This compound is used exclusively by Hunter Douglas and makes the shutters extremely durable. They are guaranteed not to warp, chip, or discolor under even the harshest conditions, including high heat or humidity.

Heritance® – If you appreciate the beauty and warmth of real hardwood, look no further than Heritance 100% real wood shutters. Made with dovetail construction out of abachi or basswood, these window treatments are stunning either stained or painted to match your decor.

NewStyle® – NewStyle shutters combine modern materials with real wood into a window treatment that is beautiful, functional, and cost-effective. This line of shutters is available stained to mimic the look of wood or painted to match your white or off-white trim.

The Benefits of Plantation Shutters

Plantation shutters are timeless, so they will not go out of style and need to be replaced any time soon. They also work well with any type of décor, from traditional to contemporary. As a result, these window treatments maintain their value and can be an asset if you decide to sell your home.

When it comes to privacy and light control, shutters offer great flexibility. They can be opened completely to provide a clear view and the maximum amount of light, they can be closed with the louvers open for filtered light, or the louvers can be closed for complete privacy and light control. Another benefit many people don’t consider is that shutters can be closed over open windows to provide some privacy without being blown around by the outdoor breeze, which is a nice feature in the spring and fall months here in North Carolina.

Custom plantation shutters are flexible when it comes to installation as well. While the most common way to hang shutters is to mount one panel on each side of a window and have them meet in the middle, they are also just as functional and attractive if you hinge several panels together to cover a larger window. If you have something that might get in the way of hanging a shutter on one side of the window, you can mount panels that are hinged together to the side of the window to avoid the obstruction.

Hunter Douglas also offers different ways to operate your shutters. If you don’t care for the standard tilt bar in the middle of the panel, you can opt to have the tilt bar on the back of the shutter and to the side, or you can get them with no tilt bar at all. Just adjust one of the louvers and the rest of them will follow.

Sew Fine II Interiors is proud to offer Hunter Douglas plantation shutters and other quality custom window treatments at our showroom in Durham, North Carolina to homeowners in Cary, Chapel Hill, Pittsboro, and Raleigh.
